Retail investors have a new 'toy' for speculation, Barclays says
Prediction markets are "retail's shiny new toy," Barclays analysts said, after finding monthly notional volume for the platforms skyrocketed since the 2024 presidential election, with an explosion of growth last fall. As of this year, monthly notional volume for prediction markets is comparable with high-risk leveraged exchange-traded products that multiply returns using debt and derivatives.
